He left his best actor Golden Globe trophy at home, but Mickey Rourke was still walking on that cloud when he descended on the L.A. Confidential magazine party thrown in his honor Monday night at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant at the London Hotel.
After making his way through the crush that included "Dark Knight" star Aaron Eckhart, as well as actors David Arquette, Tom Arnold, Danny Masterson and Ray Winstone; rockers Billy Morrison and Donovan Leitch; and socialites Kathy Hilton and Jason Davis; Rourke settled into the back room, cigarette in one hand and actress Bai Ling laminated to his side. Seems chef Ramsay, who made his way back to congratulate Rourke on his win for "The Wrestler," isn't the only one allowed to light up inside his place.
Rourke's face, which looked much more normal than at last week's Critics Choice Awards, where the Botox and Restylane treatments he'd just had were painfully obvious, actually moved a bit and lit up when Sean Penn's name was mentioned. He tried not to crow over the shift in voting - Penn won the Critics' Choice trophy, Rourke the Globe, which makes it a two-horse race heading toward Oscars - but he couldn't help being all smiles about it.
"I talked to Sean today," he told us happily. "He's a great actor, and I wish him well. Our movies are so different; it is hard to compare them. But this has been an amazing time for me, and I hope it keeps going!"
He'll have two more tests soon enough, as the Oscar nominations are announced Jan. 22, and the SAG Awards are given out Jan. 25. But as one onlooker quipped at Monday night's party, "it's already like Mickey Rourke has risen from the dead!"
