Natalie Cole wields the pen
Natalie Cole shows herself as a writer in her article for Jason Binn’s magazine, Los Angeles Confidential — this issue is Binn’s début as editorial director.
Natalie, a ten-time Grammy winner, writes movingly of her bouts with addiction and illness: “Whatever horror stories you have heard about chemo are true. It is absolutely one of the most debilitating and difficult experiences that could ever happen to a human being … Trying to perform was a real challenge. Just picture an IV hanging from a wardrobe rack in my dressing room in Japan as I tried to prepare for two shows in a night!”
The singer has no qualms discussing “my younger, hell-raising days. I was an active drug user and heroin was my drug of choice.” (Doctors feel that needle use brought on hepatitis C and Natalie’s recent kidney failure.)

Ralph Fiennes was the guest of honor at last night's Los Angeles Confidential magazine party at the Mondrian Hotel's SkyBar. He's on the current cover and he's also nominated in five categories for Golden Globes: Best Supporting Actor, The Duchess Best Actor Miniseries/Motion Picture for TV, Bernard and Doris Best Miniseries/Motion Picture for TV, Bernard and Doris Best Motion Picture Comedy, In Bruges Best Motion Pictures Drama, The Reader
As cameras went nuts shooting flashes at him, we asked him to describe the Golden Globes experience. "It's another world," he said. "I remember when I first came, I was nominated (for 1993's Schindler's List)and it was another world to me. It’s another world to see so many established faces in one room."Kim Kardashian tugged on her dress top to keep from having a wardrobe malfunction and talked about boyfriend Reggie Bush. "We're not engaged. I don't know when that will ever happen. People keep asking, but I don't know!"She said she's "gearing up" for the third season of Keeping up with the Kardashians in March and she loves it. "Look, basically our job is to wake up and work with our family every day. It couldn't get any easier." What we'll see in Season 3: "I think that everyone assumes we all live in my mom's house and this season we're going to show where we all live. We're going to show a lot of our own elements."Bai Ling's been busy, too. "I have 8 movies in post production," she said. She also praised Ralph Fiennes. "I'm friends with him. I know him. There's something very sensitive and true in his soul."What wasn't true, she said, were those reports that she had shoplifted at LAX airport in February 2008. "It was a mistake. I'm innocent."

COLE HAD CHEMOTHERAPY IN CONCERT DRESSING ROOM

The singer underwent a bout of the aggressive therapy in a bid to beat hepatitis C.
The treatment coincided with a world tour, but instead of checking into a hospital and taking time off from her busy schedule, Cole carried on performing.
The 59-year-old says in Los Angeles Confidential magazine, "Whatever horror stories you have heard about chemo is true. It is absolutely one of the most debilitating and difficult experiences that could ever happen to a human being. Trying to perform was a real challenge. Just picture an IV (intravenous) hanging from a wardrobe rack in my dressing room in Japan as I tried to prepare for two shows in a night."
Sadly for Cole, who blames her hepatitis on her past addictions to cocaine and heroin, the chemotherapy caused her kidneys to fail, and she's now hoping for a life-saving transplant.

Mad Men's Jon Hamm Doesn't Want A Huge Audience
Mad Men's breakout stars Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss grace the cover of the October Los Angeles Confidential, less that a week after their runaway hit show snagged the Emmy for Best Drama for the second year in a row.
One of Mad Men's proudest accomplishments is not only appealing to the older generation who is more familiar with the era, but also to a younger crowd who yearns to learn of it.
“…for most of the people on the show there is a vicarious thrill to looking at these people who were glamorous and put together and have this really sexy way of being in the world," says Hamm. "And a part of that is smoking and drinking and having sex and all that stuff, which throughout the 80s was demonized in many ways.”
While
“We’re fortunate in a lot of ways that Mad Men is not watched by 15 million people a week, because there would be an expectation to appeal to a much broader section of the demographic, and I think the character would have to make different choices to be appealing to that demographic. We are fortunate in that – on our show- we can stay true to the character and his very difficult choices.”
Elisabeth Moss is also experiencing a whirlwind of attention not only with praise for her portrayal of Peggy Olsen, but also because she's soon to tie the knot with Saturday Night Live favorite Fred Armisen.
“I think we’ve decided (we’ll get married) this fall. It’s not that far off, and it’s fun planning a wedding – nothing but an amazing experience for us," says Moss. "We agree on everything, so that’s good. It’s going to be a really fun special day, and I can’t wait. We both can’t wait.”
The October issue of L.A. Confidential hits newsstands October 2nd!
