Happy Monday, girls! First a baby and now a wedding? That's the big question for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden after this weekend. Following a performance with his band Good Charlotte in Virginia on Friday night, a local deejay announced to the crowd that Joel got engaged the previous day. Joel and his rocker brother made a quick exit offstage after the surprise announcement. And both he and Nicole have been mum since. So, I guess we'll have to wait for a formal announcement...but if it's true, that could be any minute now, so stay tuned!
While Jess was throwing her Malibu bash, I was down the road at the French Connection Beach House again, this time for a clambake thrown by Lara Morgenson and "LA Confidential" magazine. I had a short chat with former "American Idol" finalist Justin Guarini. You may remember that he released a couple of solo albums, but you might recognize him more recently from his work on TV Guide Channel, on which he hosts an "AI"-centric TV show. Well, he's now back in the studio working on his third disc and tells me that it's going to be a "funk, soul, R&B" album. He's even done a bit of globe-trotting to find inspiration. "I've been in the U.K. for a couple of weeks and to Japan," he said. "There is a really cool funk and soul movement going on in Europe right now so I went there to meet with some writers and bring something fresh to the scene. I'm really excited because this [album] will be the true essence of who I am." Showing their real side is something that Guarini's "Idol" gal pal Kelly Clarkson has recently struggled with, as everyone knows. So what does he think about the battle with her record label? "She is still feeling her way through the industry, and I give her props. She's made peace with everyone, and I think there is always compromise involved. That's a lesson that everyone needs to learn." Something else to learn about Guarini: he's got a serious girlfriend who he won't name but he's madly in love with. "She's absolutely gorgeous, and I'm just very happy. She's not in the industry...which I love." Enough said.
